MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Do you know the story of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf? She is Africa's First Woman President, but prior to this she endured imprisonment and torture after a terrifying coup. When I read stories such as this I am amazed at one's fortitude yet, I also wonder how my small contribution in life can ever measure up to such magnitude of character. Many times I think we begin to feel that if we cannot give 200% then we will not do it at all. It is the way we were raised and yet, in these days and times a little effort goes a long way to help those around us. So do not feel like you must "move mountains" for your efforts to matter. Give a little and it will add up to better the greater cause.
BEAUTIFICATION DAY
A perfect example of Making A Difference is our Beautification Day. Joyce Williams reports that 298 vehicles came to the Mansfield Beautification Day (145 came last event). Approximately 2,000 tires were brought in from a normal 100-200 and twice as much metal was recycled over the last event-WOW what an accomplishment! Thanks to all of the awesome volunteers for getting up early and making this invaluable day a Success!
AFTER HOURS EVENT
The First After Hours event was fun and funny. We had 22 RSVPS with 12 people attending. Just a reminder, if you do RSVP, please show up because plans are made for your attendance. Even with only 12 gals we had a wonderful time. In fact, everyone voted to do this monthly and the date is set for Monday, May 4th from 5-7 again at Bianco's Pizza. Those in attendance were Muffin St. Maria, Heidi Lovers, Frankie Roman, Daisy Highway, Lady Robinhood, Penelope Circle, Minky Mistletoe, Fluffy Feathers, Spunky F, Ginger East, Sammie Winding and Callie Balfour. Do you recognize any of these women? Oh, then it is a good reason to make the April luncheon AND to attend the next After Hours. You will want to meet them! (Apologies for the misprinted date on the Mansfield Chamber website)
MARKETING WITHOUT MONEY
As if you did not have enough wonderful reasons to attend the April luncheon learning from Jeff Crilley tops the list. All of us would like to take our PR game to the next level. Who better to help us do that that a media insider? Emmy Award winning TV reporter Jeff Crilley will share the secrets to getting good news stories covered. Jeff believes in combining learning with laughter, and we all need more humor in this crazy economy. So come learn something to smile about on April 19, 2009 at 11:30am-Walnut Creek Country Club.
I hope you all had a Safe and Happy Easter. Though many of our friends, family and clients are suffering tough times there is still so much to be thankful for during this season. Watch a sunset, smell the blooming flowers, sneeze at the newly cut grass. Whatever you love most, be sure to stop, enjoy a moment and be thankful for a beautiful world.
As always, thank you for letting me serve as the Mansfield Women's Division President. It is humbling to be part of such a great group that gets the little things to MAKE A GREAT DIFFERENCE!
Sincerely,
Lezlee Liljenberg
President
HEATHER WICKSTROM
Mary Kay Sales Director
The month of April makes me think of Easter and soft spring colors like "PINK." And who do we think of when we think of "PINK?" I know you know where I am heading with this corny introduction. Heather Wickstrom, our very own May Kay Cosmetics lady. Heather, a member of the Women's Division for many years, currently serves as our Vice President of Programs. Besides her fun sense of humor and her stylish outfits, let me fill you in on some of Heather on a more personable note.
Heather was born in Pasadena, Texas. Her father worked for NASA and working in the military. Therefore, she moved around as a young child, but most of her childhood was spent growing up in Lafayette, LA. She spent lots of summers eating gumbo and spending time with her cousins fishing on her Grandfathers boat. She is married to Jack Wickstrom, and enjoys spending time with her 'boys', Landon, Andrew and Patrick. They are all big time Texas Ranger fans! Heather is all about beauty. If she is not shopping or taking care of the boys you will find her working in her very extensive perennial garden.
Women's Division has helped Heather both personally and professionally over the years. She has met some of the most dynamic, giving and business minded women in the community. Heather feels that these same women have offered her the opportunity to befriend them, and through these friendships, her business has grown very well.
