January 2009 - Notes from the President

2009 is finally here! Your new board and I are looking forward to an exciting year. Last year Marie Mumme took the imitative to survey our members to determine what you wanted most from the Women's Division. Resoundingly, your message was more networking opportunities and chances to learn how to grow your business. We have listened and Heather Wickstrom, 1st Vice President of Programs, is rounding up some great speakers for us.

Let's keep in mind, however, that our organization was founded on helping others. This is a very unique factor about our group. If we forget this special element then we become just like every other networking group. Building business and profitability are vital; yet, giving to others brings it back to each of us ten-fold. I truly like the saying "Givers Gain". In realizing we do not give only with the intention to receive, yet, we know the one gift we receive from giving is feeling good about ourselves. That is more important that an extra dollar on many days!

Be sure to attend our first meeting of 2009! It is on January 15, 2009 11:30-1:00 at the Walnut Creek Country Club. You will hear the plans for the year and get a better idea of where and how you can fit in to get the most from the organization. Another one of my favorite sayings is "you only get out of it what you put into it". This is so true-so make one of your New Year's resolutions to get more involved in the group.

Barry McCoy and Thelma Brown have been gracious enough to step up to chair the Style Show this year. They need volunteers and I have no doubt that we all will rise to the occasion to help them make this a success! The more the merrier to divide up the responsibilities.

Final note on Tour of Homes-We raised approximately $22,000! A big thanks to the entire committee and also to Marilyn Gerloff for securing the $5,000 from the city tax funds. This money gave us flexibility advertise more and it paid for the limos, allowing more profit to the bottom-line. If you know of someone that would like to place their home on the tour in 2009 let one of the board members know. And of course, we need someone that will chair the event this year.

Let me close by saying I am honored to be a part of the Women's Division of the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce. New ideas and changes are welcome, so please share them with me. I look forward to getting to know each of you better this year, and I thank you for this chance to lead this awesome organization!

Sincerely,

Lezlee Liljenberg
President
